GBP £
Traffic & Conversion

Extra visits above your current baseline, once the target is reached. The ramp-up below controls how quickly they build.

The percentage of additional visitors who enquire or place an order.

Your qualified enquiry-to-customer rate. Used for lead generation only.

Estimate Visits From Your Keyword Research

Optional: enter your own combined monthly search estimate and the additional share of clicks you think you could earn. Examples help you choose a research group; they have no measured volumes.

service + location · specialist near me · local business + service

For example, 5% means five percentage points of additional click share. Check geography and language; avoid counting overlapping keyword demand twice. This is not a ranking forecast.

Customer Value

Revenue your business earns from one sale or engagement, excluding tax. For property, use your commission or fee.

Revenue left after product or service delivery costs, before SEO investment. Include refunds and payment fees where relevant.

SEO Investment

Include ongoing fees, content, implementation and the internal time you choose to attribute to SEO.

One-off audit, setup or implementation cost at the start. Enter zero if your plan has none.

Time & Growth

Visits build evenly: month 1 reaches 1/N of the target, then the full target is maintained from month N.

Compare total contribution and SEO investment across this many months. No value after the period is included.

Starting figures are illustrative assumptions, not market benchmarks, measured keyword volumes or an OXO quotation. All values are editable. Download creates a CSV on your device.

Explore what additional organic search traffic could mean for your business. Adjust the sliders to model enquiries, sales, contribution margin and SEO investment, then see the return over time.

Start With Additional Traffic.

Use growth above your existing baseline. Counting current customers again would inflate the return.

Measure Value, Then Cost.

Use revenue you earn and your delivery margin. An agency commission and a property price are different inputs.

Compare A Few Scenarios.

Try lower and higher conversion, a longer ramp-up and realistic costs. Save each scenario as a CSV.

One Model. A More Relevant Starting Point.

Your location, customer journey and revenue model change the calculation. Choose the local version for relevant keyword examples and currency, or begin with this GBP model. Example figures are editable assumptions, not measured search demand.

01

Local Service Enquiries

Model the journey from a relevant search visit to an enquiry, then from an enquiry to a paying customer. Use revenue from the work you win and a contribution margin that accounts for delivery costs.

service + locationspecialist near melocal business + service

02

Property & High-Value Leads

Use the commission or fee your business earns, rather than the advertised value of a property. A longer sales cycle belongs in the ramp-up assumptions and a cautious lead-to-customer conversion rate.

property type + areaestate agent + locationcommercial property + location

Research examples · No measured search volume

03

Ecommerce & Bookings

Switch to online sales to model visit-to-order conversion directly. Enter net order revenue and allow for product costs, booking fulfilment, refunds and payment fees in the margin.

The Calculation

Know What Sits Behind The Result.

The model compares the contribution from additional organic customers with the SEO investment needed to pursue them. Existing revenue stays outside the calculation.

ROI = (incremental contribution − SEO investment) ÷ SEO investment × 100With zero SEO investment, percentage ROI is undefined.
  1. Estimate additional customers. For leads: extra visits × enquiry conversion × customer closing rate. For online sales: extra visits × order conversion.
  2. Convert customers into contribution. Multiply new customers or orders by revenue per customer, then by the contribution margin left after delivering the product or service.
  3. Allow time to build. A six-month ramp reaches one-sixth of the visit target in month 1, two-sixths in month 2 and the full target from month 6. Revenue and contribution follow the same pattern.
  4. Subtract the investment. Total SEO cost is the initial cost plus the monthly investment for every month in your chosen period. Break-even is the first month cumulative contribution covers cumulative SEO cost.

This is a scenario, not a forecast. It does not model seasonality, changing margins, repeat purchases, lifetime value, tax, fixed overhead, attribution overlap or cash collection delays. Include the cost of content and implementation in your inputs, and use consistent tax-exclusive values. Validate assumptions with website analytics and enquiry measurement.

A Few Useful Questions.

Which currency should I use?

This general calculator uses GBP. The Gibraltar version also uses GBP, Marbella and Sotogrande use EUR, and Dubai uses AED. Each version starts with a clearly labelled example scenario. Switching location does not perform a currency conversion.

Does this calculator know my keyword rankings?

No. It does not connect to your Google accounts, scrape search results or pull live keyword volumes. Use your own search, analytics and sales data to replace the illustrative inputs.

Does a positive result mean SEO will achieve this return?

No. The result is the arithmetic of your assumptions. The calculator cannot know whether traffic, rankings, conversion or sales will reach your inputs. Compare cautious, working and higher-growth scenarios, then review them against actual performance.

Why use contribution margin rather than revenue alone?

Revenue does not account for the cost of delivering a product or service. Contribution margin deducts those variable delivery costs before SEO investment is subtracted. The resulting figure is incremental contribution after SEO, not your company’s accounting net profit.

Does the calculator store or send my figures?

No. Calculations and CSV downloads happen in your browser. The calculator does not send your inputs to OXO, connect to your Google accounts or save them between visits. Changing location opens a fresh example scenario.

How should I choose an SEO budget?

Start with what you can afford to invest, the specific work required and conservative estimates from your own business. Test the required additional visits and sales against your capacity and margins. Review the proposed SEO scope with OXO before treating any example cost as a budget or quotation.
